Mr. Charles Edward Combs, Sr., 79, of 1013 Mountain View Church Road, King, passed away Thursday morning, November 13, 2008, at his home. Mr. Combs was born April 25, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Ellis Phillip and Alice Combs Combs. Charles was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired as a lineman supervisor from Pike Electric Inc. after 44 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Bowman Combs of the home; a daughter, Bridget Seperack of Winston-Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Edward "Eddie" Combs, Jr. and Debbie Combs of King; six grandchildren, Justin Combs, Brandon Combs, Whitney Combs, Nathan Combs, Babette Mabe, and Courtney Seperack; three great-grandchildren; Logann Combs, Erin Combs, and Rhiley Mabe; and a sister, Pauline Combs Bowman of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Combs was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jean Combs; a son, James Ellis Combs; three sisters, Mossie Throckmorton, Thelma Combs, and Christine Pierce; and two brothers, John Combs and Douglas Combs. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Jim Saul officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:30 PM until time for Mr. Combs to be carried to the cemetery for the graveside service.
