Mr. Charles Leonard Danley, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, April 20, 2023, at his home. Mr. Danley was born September 24, 1938, in Surry County, the son of the late Charlie Posey and Alma Key Danley. Charles served our country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1960. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he worked as a farmer and truck driver, retiring from Ryder Logistics after many years of service. Charles was a founding member of Jesus’ Church of Corinth in Ararat. He helped build the church building and later the fellowship hall. Charles served as a member of the church’s board of trustees for more than 40 years and was a Sunday school teacher for many, many years. Ultimately, he was a faithful servant of God. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Selva Jean Key Danley of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorri Danley Bowman of Mount Airy and Melissa and Tony Hamlin of Dobson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Tara Danley of Mount Airy and Kip and Kim Danley of Ararat; his grandchildren, Lindsay and Hal Epperson, Nicole and Aaron Moser, Trey Hamlin, and Molly Hamlin, all of Dobson, Zach Bowman, Reid Danley, and Maddie Danley, all of Mount Airy, and Hunter Danley and Heath Danley, both of Ararat; two great-grandchildren, Essie Raye Moser and River Kate Moser, both of Dobson; a sister, Patty Danley Marion of Ararat; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Danley was preceded in death by a son-in-law, The Honorable Clifford Ricky Bowman; a brother and sister-in-law, Oliver J. and Jane C. Danley; a brother-in-law, Jack Marion; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dock and Mollie Reid Key; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby T. Key, Fred and Jettie Key, Hassell and Mary C. Key, Barley and Mattie H. Key, Dorothy and Sam Moore, and Melva and J.B. Greene, Jr. A private graveside service will be held at Jesus’ Church of Corinth Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Pack and Lindsay Epperson officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the service by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. No formal visitation will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as his special caregivers, Kathy Whitener, Deborah Creed, Dixie Atkins, and Dee Hughes.
