Mr. Charles Howard Dowell, 84, of 1544 East Pine Street, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Dowell was born March 16, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Ambrose Lafayette and Nannie Lessie Deatherage Dowell. He was the owner and operator of Snappy Lunch for 61 years and was of the Protestant faith. He is survived by his wife, Mary Clement Dowell of the home; a daughter, Jamie Lynn Dowell of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Steven and Judy Dowell of Pfafftown; a granddaughter, Jessica Michelle Dowell; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Opal Marion of Winston-Salem, Thelma Dowell of Mount Airy, Nancy and Al Adams of Greensboro, and Carolyne Churchill of Williamsburg, VA; and three brothers and a sister-in-law, A.L. Dowell, Jr. and Jack Dowell, both of Mount Airy, and Jimmy and Carol Dowell of Lowgap. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dowell was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Joyce, Betty Neese, and Patricia Jarrett; and four brothers, Byron, Leo, Roscoe, and Harry Dowell. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 7, 2012, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Glenda Bramlet, the Rev. Harry Sammons, and Mr. Charles Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Golden Living, Central Continuing Care, and the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
