Charles Silas Gates

Mr. Charles Silas Gates, 75, of Cana, VA passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.  He was born in Carroll County to the late Clisba Silas and Lillian Iona Easter Gates Christian.  After retirement from Yellow Freight, Mr. Gates enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed beekeeping with his friend David Mabe.  He was a beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend.  Mr. Gates is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael “Gator” and Angela Gates; granddaughter, Hannah Gates; sister, Emily Verlea Easter; brothers and sister-in-law, Rev. Alvin Gates, Elder Lacy Gates and Catherine; several nieces and nephews and many friends; long-time family friends, Ronnie and Jerry Vaughn and Ed Hatfield.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Gates as preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lawrence Easter; a sister-in-law, Janice Gates and two nephews, Dale Gates and Jerry Easter.  A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Lacy Gates officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
