Charles Cox Graham

Mr. Charles Cox Graham, 76, devoted husband of Martha Benson Graham, of Dobson, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a brief illness. He was born July 30, 1932, in Forsyth County, to Dixie and Ina Prevette Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Hazel Carner Graham. Mr. Graham was a retired superintendent of the Surry County Schools, where he served in many capacities, including teaching at Dobson High School, principal at Lowgap and Copeland schools, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. After his retirement, he served on the Surry County Board of Education and the Dobson Town Board. In 2001, Mr. Graham was recognized by Catawba College as a distinguished alumnus. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served our country during the Korean Conflict. A faithful member of Dobson United Methodist Church, Mr. Graham devoted his life to God, his family, and the importance of education. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Benson Graham of the home; a daughter, Anna Graham Robinson and husband, Larrie C. Robinson Jr. of Dobson; a son, Charles Cox Graham II and wife, Angela Scott Graham, of Dobson; five precious grandchildren whom he adored, Mittchell, Carlie, and Christian Robinson and Chase and Carter Graham; two sisters and brothers in law, Dixie Ann and Charles Teague of Greensboro and Glenetta and Robert Milunis of Laguna, CA; a brother and sister in law, James and Corine Graham of Cary; and very special friends, Don and Lou Beane. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2009, at Dobson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathy Earley officiating. Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetary in Elkin, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Charles C. Graham Educational Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 932 Dobson, NC 27017.
