Mr. Charles Richard Hatfield, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, April 26, 2021, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Hatfield was born August 17, 1945, in Howard County, MD, the son of the late Charles and Anna Florence Perryboyd Hatfield. Charles retired as an attendant from Surry County Landfill and was a member of Gospel Mission Baptist Church. He is survived by four stepchildren and their spouses, Sandra Ann and Jared Jessup of Pilot Mountain, JoAnn Sparks and Danny Baker of Pinnacle, Barbara Odum of Mount Airy, and Ricky and Sue Bobbitt of Westfield; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Hatfield, Ronnie Hatfield, Denny and Patsy Hatfield, and Bobby and Becky Hatfield; a special friend, Paddi Butera-Billings of Pilot Mountain; and his best buddy, Gizmo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hatfield was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Hatfield; his second wife, Brenda Patricia Hatfield; a sister, Helen; and a brother, Jimmy Hatfield. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Gospel Mission Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Mission Baptist Church, 1046 Linville Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
