Charles Edgar Haymore

Mr. Charles Edgar Haymore, Sr., 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at his home. Charles was born in Surry County, North Carolina, to Hillery and Thelma Kirkman Haymore. He grew up with his brother, Leon, on a tobacco farm in Holly Springs, near his grandparents. He attended Flat Rock School where he met Ruth, his loving wife. He was involved in many sports. Charles graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1951 and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, but left school to enlist in the army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. It was during his tenure in the army that he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Upon his discharge from the armed forces, he began his career in paving. Charles and Ruth were married in Mount Airy on October 10, 1954, where they made their home. They were blessed with two daughters, Tamra and Dawn, before moving to Tucson, Arizona, where they were blessed with four more children, Monda, Joy, Chuck and Angela. In Tucson, Charles was active in his children's lives and was a deacon in his church. He worked for his uncle's paving company before making it his own successful business; in 1990 he and Ruth relocated to Mount Airy. Charles worked for Hiatt Asphalt Company as a grader operator and supervisor. He joined Flat Rock Baptist Church where he served as a faithful deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a man of God who loved his family and passed on a legacy of faith. Mr. Haymore is survived by his wife, Ruth Thompson Haymore of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Tamra and Larry Fredeen of Tucson, Arizona, Dawn and Jack Marslender of Avondale, Arizona, Monda and Drew Thompson of Fredericksburg, Texas, Hilda Joy and Dan Livingston of Omaha, Nebraska, and Angela and TJ Lievsay of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Debbie Haymore of Tucson, Arizona; twenty-six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leon Haymore of North Wilkesboro. Charles was greeted in heaven by his grandson, Joshua Fredeen. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, by Pastor Jack Marslender and the Rev. Todd E. Byrd. Burial will follow in the New Venture Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 6, 2010, from 12:00 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
