Mr. Charles Gamble Lyle, 88, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Born March 11, 1923, in Griffin, GA, to Ray and Belle Lyle, Charles attended North Georgia Military in Dahlonega. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines. A graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in textile chemistry, he worked in research and development, and in later years in manufacturing. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ward Lyle; children, Dodie Beth Gable (Clark) of Burlington, Cynthia Grace Bowling of Raleigh, and Michael S. Lyle of Taunton, England; a stepson, John W. Durham (Carol) of Centerville, VA; grandchildren, Stephen Gable (Stephanie) of Burlington, Wray and Mitchell Bowling of Raleigh, Sarah Lyle of London, England, and Matthew Lyle (Amanda); and great-grandson, Maxie of Taunton, England; and brothers, Donald (Betty) of Spindale, NC, and David (Eleanor) of Chattanooga, TN. There will be a remembrance reception at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of Mount Airy Memorial Library where Charles served on the board.
