Mr. Charles Clancy Lyons, 70, of 921 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009, at his home. Mr. Lyons was born January 16, 1939, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Charles Lloyd and Mary Julia Jarrell Lyons. Clancy served our country in the United States Army and owned and operated Lyons Hosiery for 30 years. He attended New Hope Baptist Church. Clancy enjoyed a lifetime of music, giving him the special honor of making many musician friends. He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Lyons Simmons, Amanda and Lee Wright, and Crystal "Tittle" Lyons, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Trent and Carlene Lyons, Matt Lyons, and Sandra Gwyn Lyons, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Chloe Wright, Danny Lyons, Josh Lyons, Ashley Fleenor, Meagan Wood, Jacob Lyons, Jesse Wood, Noah Lyons, and Isaac Lyons; a great-grandchild, Kaylie Fleenor; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Arretta Lyons Norman, Margaret Lyons H. and Lowell Layman, and Mary Lyons C. Parsons, all of Mount Airy; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Lloyd Elmo Lyons of Kernersville, Reavis Lyons of Mount Airy, Gary and Evelyn Lyons of Raleigh, Fred and Betty Lyons of Hendersonville, and Ruth Lyons of Sylva; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Teresa Lyons and Ronnie Joyce, both of Mount Airy; and his special pet, Peanut. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by a son, Charles Tony Lyons; and two brothers, Arwood Lyons and Dewey Lyons. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Trent Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church.
