Charles William Mabe

Mr. Charles William “Charlie Bill” Mabe, 67, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, September 17, 2020, at his home.  Mr. Mabe was born November 13, 1952, in Henry County, VA, the son of the late Alvin Raymond and Zelma Rosabelle Bowman Mabe.  Charlie retired from Virginia-Carolina Paving and was a member of Bear Trail Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Christine Ayers Mabe of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Joseph Marion of Mount Airy; a special child, Ashton Williams of the home; two grandsons and their wives, Christopher and Amanda Murray and Bradley and Rebecca Murray, all of Mount Airy; two stepgrandchildren, Wesley Marion and Jessica Marion, both of Mount Airy; five great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and the Rev. Terry Watson of Mount Airy; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Robert and Kathy Mabe of Fancy Gap, VA, Doug and Betty McMillan of Galax, VA, and Jean McMillian of Mount Airy; his extended Ayers family; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Mabe was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Victoria Murray; a great-grandson, Jensen Murray; an infant sister; and three brothers, James Ronald McMillian (infant), Larry McMillian, and Don McMillian.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Bear Trail Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Timmy Crotts officiating.  Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 12:00 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 1:30 PM at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
