Mr. Charles Bernard Radford, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. He was born in Floyd on April 1, 1938, to the late Robert Radford and Catherine Underwood Radford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Alice Goard, Jean Fulk, Livia Ashley, Opal Ward; and a half-brother, David Radford.
Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Elaine DeHart Radford of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Mike Hutchens of Stuart; two sisters, Frances Bourne of Danville, Clynda Radford of Floyd; a half-brother, Alvin Radford; four sisters-in-law, Maggie McCracken (Charlie) of High Point, NC, Wavie Harris of San Antonio, TX, Hazel Dollarhite of Stuart, Everne Walker (Roy) of Stuart; two brothers-in-law, Elmer DeHart (Marie) of Stuart, Weldon DeHart (Shirley) of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles enjoyed the beauty of the mountains where they lived and was often found trimming trees and riding his four-wheeler or working in his yard. He worked his garden and shared vegetables and fruit from his trees with the family and friends. He enjoyed nature and called a deer and rabbits to his carport for food. His favorite pastime was watching birds from his window.
Charles was employed at Bassett Superior Line and Vaughn Furniture in Stuart for 41 years. He supervised many employees. One of his favorite stories was he never terminated an employee. He placed them in another area where they were best suited. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
