Mr. Charles Lewis Shelton, 76, of 135 Sea Gull Lane, North Topsail Beach, NC, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Shelton was born October 25, 1930, in the Flat Rock community of Surry County, NC, to the late Roy Oscar and Vannie Smith Shelton. Charles proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a postal operations supervisor from the United States Postal Service and was a member of North Topsail Shores Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Judy Carter Shelton of the home; six children and their spouses, Debonne S. and Shane Boger of Lexington, NC, Charles Randall Shelton of Winston-Salem, NC, Steve Anthony and Catherine Shelton of East Flat Rock, NC, Renee Wagoner of Wilmington, NC, and Mendi and Brian Goodwin and David and Elizabeth Wagoner, all of Cary, NC; six grandchildren, Tara S. Craig, Lori S. White, John Spillman, Randall Spillman, Ben Liverman, and Mason Wagoner; two great-grandchildren, Ashton White and Addison Boyer; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy R. and Elizabeth Shelton and Owen S. and Myra Shelton, all of Winston-Salem, NC. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 30, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Mount Airy, NC. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dwayne Collins of North Topsail Shores Baptist Church and the Rev. Tommy C. Smith of Mount Airy. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy, NC, and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216, or North Topsail Shores Baptist Church Building Fund, 808 Old Folkstone Road, Sneads Ferry, NC 28460.
