Mr. Charles David Simmons, 51, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born November 29, 1957, in Surry County, to Maxine Chilton Simmons and the late Jimmie Lane Simmons, Sr. He was the owner, operator, and president of Applied Polymerics. He helped establish The Shepherd's House in Mount Airy and was a supporter of Hand Up Africa. David was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Kyndal Simmons of Mount Airy; two sons, Tyler "Ty" Simmons and Trey Simmons, both of Mount Airy; his fiancee, Michelle Hollar Simmons of Hickory; his mother, Maxine Chilton Simmons of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Ted Watson of Toast; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Stephanie Simmons of Mount Airy; four nephews, Mark Watson, Ashton Simmons, Avery Simmons, and Jonathan Simmons; two nieces, Lori Watson and Allyn-Claire Simmons; a great nephew, Jacob "Jake" Simmons; and Michele Gardner Simmons, the mother of his three children. In addition to his father, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie Lane Simmons, Jr. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jon Cawley and Mr. Murray Kartanson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to The Shepherd's House, 227 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
