Mr. Charles Tyler Christian “Ty” Simmons, 23, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. Mr. Simmons was born September 27, 1994, in Surry County, one of three children born to Michele Gardner Simmons and the late Charles David Simmons. Ty graduated from Mount Airy High School in 2012 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree in marketing from Appalachian State University in 2016. He was the proud recipient of an Eagle Scout, earned through Boy Scouts of America, Troop #553, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his mother, Michele Gardner Simmons; a sister and brother-in-law, Kyndal and Isaac Draughn; a brother, Trey David Alexander Simmons; his paternal grandmother, Maxine Chilton Simmons; two aunts, Hilda Simmons Watson and Susan Simmons Poore; an uncle and aunt, Bob and Stephanie Simmons; his cousins, Lori Watson and Chuck Robinson, Mark Watson, Jonathan, Jennifer and Jake Simmons, Ashton Simmons, Avery Simmons, and Allyn-Claire Simmons; his girlfriend, Mallory Blake; and his extended family, Brad, Jodi, Taylor, and Sarah Cates. In addition to his father, Ty was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jimmie Lane Simmons, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Brenda Anderson; and two uncles, Jimmie Lane Simmons, Jr. and Teddy Bob Watson. A service of worship and celebration of Ty’s life will be held Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin and Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.
