Mr. Charles Wallace Stone, 82, of 651 Race Track Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009, at his home. He was born November 6, 1926, in Stokes County, to the late Roy Thomas and Sula Westmoreland Stone. Wallace was the retired owner and operator of Saw and Knife Service, and he started the first waste management service in Surry County. Mr. Stone was a scout leader for Boy Scout Troop #517, was of the Baptist faith, and was a member and past master of Round Peak Masonic Lodge 616 AF and AM. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Bettie Jean Lawson Stone of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Deane and Roy Vernon of Dobson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Dorothea Stone and Brian and Pam Stone, all of Mount Airy, and Gary and JoAnn Stone of Dobson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Catherine Cockerham of Greensboro and Kay Sauvageau and Joey of King; and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roy Kenneth Stone and Irene, Billy Dale and Pat Stone, and Jimmy Stone, all of Pinnacle, and Donald Gray Stone and Linda of King. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with full Masonic rites by the Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM and full military rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
