Charles Sidney Vaughn

Mr. Charles Sidney Vaughn, age 81, of Mount Airy, NC “received the gift of life on November 3, 1936, and the gift of eternal life on August 26, 2018.”  Mr. Vaughn was born in High Point, NC to Joseph Edward and Dollie Estelle Patterson Vaughn.  He attended Duke University and graduated from High Point University with a degree in Christian Education.  He was retired after serving as Director of Christian Education, Music and Program Ministries at Central United Methodist Church, in Mount Airy, Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville, and First United Methodist Church in Hinesville, GA for many years.  He was an active member of Grace Moravian Church and served in several capacities there.  Charles also educated many tourists about “Mayberry” on many tours he conducted for the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce.  Among the many who will always cherish his sweet, kind memory is his loving wife, Frances Austin Vaughn; daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie Vaughn, Michelle Day, and Catherine and Jay Pursley; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sherrie Vaughn, Michael and Connie Vaughn, and Jonathan and Sharon Sharp; grandchildren, Johanna Hajj-Hassan, Elijah, Jedediah and Skylar Day, Christian, Sarah, and Gracie Young, Ray Rachel and Ryan Sharp, Zoe and Caelyn Pursley, Destiny Vaughn and Valeria Hazelwood; sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Rick Mills and Barbara Vaughn; a brother Jerry Vaughn, sisters-in-law, Carolyn Dillon, and Susan Austin Carney; nephews, Justin Price, William Carney and Chandler Carney; a special cousin Tom Cochran and his wife Jan; and Charles’ special fur babies, Lucy and Simba.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Moore and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Vaughn.  A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Grace Moravian Church by Dr. Neil Routh.  The family will accept friends and family after the service in the fellowship hall.  It is the family’s request that the celebration be colorful, and anyone who knew Charles, knew his favorite color was “Duke Blue”.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to some charities that Charles was very passionate about; The Children’s Center of Surry at 2000 Prison Camp Rd., Dobson, NC 27017, The Shepherd’s House, P.O. Box 1722, Mount Airy, NC 27030, Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017, Surry Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 981, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to Advanced Home Care 1100 S. Stratford Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Charles S. Vaughn Mission’s Fund, 1401 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
