Mr. Charles “Junior” Dixie Vernon, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Vernon was born April 9, 1928, in Carroll County to the late Charles Dixie Vernon and Bessie Rozella Jones Vernon. He was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church and was the owner operator of Vernon’s Cabinet Shop for many years. Charles proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. Left to cherish his memories are a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Alan Vernon and wife Shelia; five grandchildren, Rigo Vernon, Julie Vernon, Christian Vernon, Dylan Vernon, Carson Vernon; six great-grandchildren, Ashton Vernon, Albert Vernon, Andrew Vernon, Curtis Joseph Stallings III, Mateo Stallings, and Michael Belcher; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Homer Pyles; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vernon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Faye King Vernon; sister, Mary Earline Vernon Fleming; and a brother, Wallace Robert “Buck” Vernon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Joey Jessup. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 12:30 – 2:00PM.
