Charles Edgar Willard

Mr. Charles Edgar Willard, 71, of 101 Leonhardt Drive, Cana, VA, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home. He was born May 15, 1939, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Roy D. Willard and Lena Easter Willard Sechrist. He had worked at John S. Clark and was retired from North Carolina Foam Industries. He was a choir leader for over 30 years and the sexton of the Cana Baptist Church Cemetery, where he was an active member. Surviving are his wife, Eddie Lee Love Willard of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tamala "Tammy" Lynn and Bobby Rex Vernon of Cana, VA; a grandson, Jacob Brady Vernon of Cana, VA; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Georgia Mae Bell of Mount Airy and Ima Jean and Perry Easter of Winston-Salem; and a sister-in law, Ann Willard of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Willard was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lane Willard. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 1, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Cana Baptist Church, with the Rev. Verlon Combs and the Rev. Dud Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
