Rev. Charlie Lee Hawks, 90, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on November 12, 1931, to the late Lester and Rosa Martin Hawks. Rev. Hawks retired from Renfro Corporation. He was in the ministry for over 50 years and was Pastor of Pine Ridge Mission. Rev. Hawks had a love for music and could play many instruments including a banjo which he played in the Sugerloaf Mountain Band. He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Rhonda Miller, Pat Hiatt, Gail and Terry Hawks, Pamela Hawks, Kathy Sawyers; sons and daughter-in-law, Charlie Lee Hawks, Jr., David and April Hawks; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Hawks; sisters-in-law, Patsy Collins, and Jessie Eaton; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rev. Hawks was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hawks Hawks; a daughter Lisa Hawks; a son-in-law, Clifton Miller; grandson, Chris Williams; sisters, Ella Jones, and Lillian Holt; brothers, Jack Hawks, Warren Hawks, Thurmond Hawks, and Mack Hawks. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Michael Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Hawks Family Cemetery in Lambsburg. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
