Charlie Alden Horton

Mr. Charlie Alden Horton, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away at his home on Monday, November 18, 2019 surrounded by his family.  Mr. Horton was born on August 11, 1930 in Surry County to the late Willie Ernest and Bertie Mae Carroll Horton.  Mr. Horton was a loving husband, father, and brother who loved his family dearly.  Mr. Horton retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery after many years of dedicated service.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Faye Portis Horton; a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Faye and Roger Wright; nine sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann Wood, Margie and Arthur Noah, Carolyn Daniels, Nellie Anderson, Shirley and Roger Dollyhite, Nina Horton, Ruthie Hopkins, Rhonda Horton, and Lynn and Melvin Clodfelter; a brother, Tommy Horton; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his son, Michael Alden Horton; four sisters, Mary Gladys Horton Earles, Betty Jean Horton York, Hazel Lorrine Horton Bowman, and Peggy Louise Horton Mabe; five brothers, Glenn Woodrow Horton, William Ernest Horton, Alec Edward Horton, Early Edgar “Ed” Horton, and Robert “Bobby” Wade Horton; and by his loving step-mother, Goldia “Goldie” Watson Horton.  The funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, November 21, 2019 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 11am with the Rev. Alan Easter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portis Family Cemetery in Ararat, VA.  The family will receive friends on Thursday morning from 10-11am at Moody Funeral Home.
