Charlie Allen Toone

Mr. Charlie Allen Toone, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.  Mr. Toone was born November 20, 1932, in Mecklenburg County, VA, to the late Charlie Mataugh and Mamie Susan “Susie” Farrar Toone.  He retired as a stonecutter from North Carolina Granite Corporation after 35 years of service and was a devoted member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and thoroughly appreciated the Emily B. Taylor Greenway, which he rode his bike daily until he was 82.  Mr. Toone is survived by his twin daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Toone and Glenda Toone Bumgardner and Mike Bumgardner; a grandson, Wesley Adam Bumgardner; a sister and brother-in-law, Lacy and John Day; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Toone was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Frances Akers Toone; five sisters, Beatrice Camp, Maude Vargo, Delma Payne, Cora Trammell, and Lois Dyer; and five brothers, Robert Toone, Yancey Toone, Sim “CM” Toone, Bernard Toone, and Edward Toone.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Tim Burton officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 until 12:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Kate B.
