Charlie Edgar Willey

Mr. Charlie Edgar Willey, 93, of Lowgap passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Surry Health and Rehabilitation in Mt. Airy.  He was born in Surry County on January 30, 1927 to the late William Gid and Sarah Smith Willey.  Mr. Willey retired from the United States Navy where he proudly served our country for twenty four years.  Mr. Willey was a longtime member of the Round Peak Masonic Lodge.  He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dara and Ronald Gillespie, Paula and Ricky East, and Susan and Tom Payne; a son, Charlie Willey, Jr.; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents Mr. Willey was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Pruitt Willey; sisters, Opal Johnson, and Ruby Hawks.  Due to the limitation of numbers for public gatherings at this time, a private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation, 542 Allred Mill Rd., Mt.
