Charlotte Wood Newman

Mrs. Charlotte Wood Newman, 76, of 375 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Newman was born July 23, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Gilmer and Ona O'Dell Wood. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Troy Edgar Newman of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marguerite and Steve Burcham and Ginger and Jimmy Utley, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Justin Burcham and his wife, Michelle, Meghan Burcham, and Garth Utley and fiancee, Kristin Greene; a great-granddaughter, Alicia Burcham; a sister, Marilyn Driggers of Mount Airy; a special cousin, Helen Watson; and special friends, Mary Ann Atkins, Barbara Starling, Nancy and Dick Merritt, and Callie and Clinton Marshall. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by a sister, Johnnie Mae Chipman; and a brother, Bud Wood. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
