Charlotte Electra Golden Spurlin

Mrs. Charlotte Electra Golden Spurlin, 88, of 219 Laurel Street, Lowgap, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born April 1, 1921, in Surry County, to the late Rufus and Dora Upchurch Golden. She was a retired textile worker and a homemaker. Mrs. Spurlin was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and the Rev. Woody Flippen of Lowgap; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Bill and Janet Spurlin and Butch and Melody Spurlin, all of Lowgap; seven grandchildren and four spouses, Todd and Melissa Spurlin, Scotty Spurlin, Greg and Penny Flippen, Bryan and Crystal Flippen, Doryla Flippen, Robby Spurlin, and Megan and Buzz Wilmoth; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Francis Golden of Swannanoa. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spurlin was preceded in death by her husband, Johnie Willard Spurlin; a daughter, Shirley Ann Spurlin; a grandson, John Daniel Spurlin; a great-grandson, Kason Elijah Wilmoth; four sisters, Cleo Hawks, Nellie Bryant, Beatrice Hawks, and Pearl Bartley; and a brother, Lester Golden. The funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Woody Flippen and the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 PM until the time of the service at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM Sunday at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express a special thanks to their many special friends, the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, and Doreen Foster (hairdresser) for the care given to Mrs. Spurlin during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family request that all food donations be taken to the fellowship hall of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
