Charmaine Juliette Atkins

Mrs. Charmaine Juliette Terry Vaught Atkins, age 85 of Claudville, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Northern Hospital of Surry County.  She was born in Patrick County on August 25, 1933 to the late Rodney Charlton Terry and Mattie Irene Epperson Terry.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Atkins; a daughter-in-law, Eva Vaught; and a stepson, Bruce Atkins.  She enjoyed her nursing career of over 50 years, was a member of the Red Hats Society, and volunteered with the Patrick County Chapter of the American Cancer Society serving in many roles for several years.

Mrs. Atkins is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Edie Vaught of Stuart; two step daughters and sons-in-law, Sandye and John Wallick of Nashville, Tennessee, Mary and Bob “Ace” Klaver of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a step daughter-in-law, Ellen Atkins of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Kenneth Vaught and wife, Vanessa, Melissa Vaught and partner, Eugene Day; ten step grandchildren, Kirstin, David, Jackie, Jessie, Becca, Annie, Courtney, Ashlee, Haley, Kristin; thirteen great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Estelle Terry of Ararat; a sister and brother-in-law, Athajean and Franklin Martin of Stuart; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Terry Martin and Pastor Buford Jessup officiating.  Burial will follow in the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, Virginia 24171 or to the American Cancer Society, 1079C Spruce Street, Martinsville, VA  24112.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
