Chelsea Blauvelt Barnes

Mrs. Chelsea Blauvelt Banta Barnes, 42, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday afternoon, December 4, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Barnes was born March 3, 1978, in Onslow County, the daughter of Robert and Mary Engler Banta.  Chelsea was an educator in North Carolina for 16 years.  She taught first grade in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System for several years and later became an assistant principal in Gaston County Schools.  She is survived by her husband, Michael Ashley Barnes of Mount Airy; two sons, Cooper Barnes and Sawyer Barnes, both of Mount Airy; her parents, Robert and Mary Engler Banta of Raleigh; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Melissa Banta of Richmond, VA; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, N.A. and Judy Barnes of Mount Airy.  Due to public health concerns, no memorial service will be held at this time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chelsea’s name may be made to The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, 301 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
