Christal Columbia Gunnell

Mrs. Christal Columbia Jones Gunnell, 89, of Cana, VA, passed away at her home, Monday, December 27, 2021. She was born in Carroll County, VA, to the late Roscoe Fredrick and Annie Lousia Jones. Mrs. Gunnell worked with Proctor Silex for several years before staying home to raise her family. She helped her husband with the farm, raising various vegetables, strawberries, and flowers. She also ran a childcare from the home. Mrs. Gunnell was the oldest member of Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ronnie and Eva Gunnell, Delcie Gunnell and Mark Beck, Ricky and Wanda Gunnell, Delana Burgess, and Ritchie and Hazel Gunnell; nine grandchildren, Anegla and A.J. Flippin, Terry and Judy Gunnell-Beck, Benjamin Gunnell, Bridget and Chad Harris, Scott and Lauren Gunnell-Beck, Kayla Gunnell, Amanda and Zack Crissman, Tabitha and Ritchie Harris, Tracy Gunnell; fourteen great-grandchildren, Abby, Destiney, Valerie, Andrew, Meggin, Amber, Carson, Ryan, Ella, Eve, Kacie, Ema, Hunter, and Emarie; step great-grandchildren, Hannah Joanna, and Josiah; a sister, Lucretia Edwards; and a brother Rondie Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunnell was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lee Gunnell; great-grandchild Jordan Crissman; a sister, Lora Steele; brothers, Cephas Jones, Roland Jones, and two infant siblings. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 31, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Elders V.J. Hawks and Tracy Gunnell officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Jones family Cemetery on Apple Ridge Road, Cana, VA.
