Christopher Wayne Rakes

Mr. Christopher Wayne “Chris” Rakes, 55, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017, at his home. Mr. Rakes was born January 18, 1962, in Surry County, one of six children born to Virginia Marshall Rakes and the late Wayne Rakes. Chris worked many years as a sandblaster for local monument companies. He is survived by a daughter, Candice Nichole Rakes of Pilot Mountain; a son, Jason Benjamin Rakes of Salem, VA; three grandchildren, Kyndal Rakes, Parker Rakes, and Stella Rakes, all of Pilot Mountain; his mother, Virginia Marshall Rakes of Mount Airy; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Donna and Buck Berrier, Waynette Rakes, Darlene Love, and Billy Morton, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Margaret Rakes of Pilot Mountain; several nieces and nephews; the mother of his children and special friends, Kitty and Rick Foreman of Winston-Salem; and the father of his grandson, Jeff Allen of Mount Airy. In addition to his father, Mr. Rakes was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Morton. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Matt King officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Virginia Marshall Rakes at 145 East Monroe Road, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
