Christoulla Joannidou Rock

Christoulla Joannidou Rock, 70, of Mt. Airy passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on Friday, April 17, 2020.  She was born on the island of Cyprus, December 26, 1949, to the late Anastasis C. Ioannidis and Panayiota Anastasiou.  Mrs. Rock was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She was a virtuous woman, always meticulously caring for her home and family as her husband worked and provided for them.

Mrs. Rock was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God in Mount Airy, and was involved in various aspects of ministry, both in her home church as well as others. She enjoyed leading Bible studies, prayer groups and sharing her Christian faith with others.

Having lived and travelled internationally, she touched lives along the way, including starting a church (that continues to flourish) during a “brief” 18 month stay in the Philippines. She also loved Greek music and dancing. Her family is comforted knowing she is in heaven certainly leading a Bible study and teaching all the saints and apostles Greek dances.

One of the things for which Mrs. Rock will be most remembered is her love of cooking for others. Not only did she prepare the most amazing Greek dishes (her baklava and spanakopita were legendary), she derived endless joy from feeding  and hosting others.

Mrs. Rock is survived by her husband of almost fifty years, Raymond Rock, Sr.; her children Raymond Rock, Jr. (Cheryl) and Monica Rock; her grandchildren Raymond “Trey” Rock, III, Mary Evans (Michael), Deacon Rock, Isabel Wishart, and Lauren Wishart; her great grandchildren Conway Rock and Hazel Evans; her sisters Mary Grigoriou (Andrew), Eleni Raptis; her sister-in-law Toni Anastasiou; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rock was preceded in death by a sister, Julie Louis, and brothers, Konstantinos “Gus” and George Anastasiou.

A private family graveside service will be held with plans for a public memorial service at a later date. While there will not be a formal visitation, anyone wishing to pay their respects will be welcome on Monday, April 20 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy during normal business hours.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite ministry.
