Clara Belle Clark Stegmann

Mrs. Clara Belle Clark Stegmann, 93, of Jefferson, formerly of New York, NY, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Clara was born November 27, 1923, in Roanoke Rapids, one of seven children born to the late Alexander Lillington and Clara Belle Foy Clark. Clara retired as associate editor of THINK magazine, IBM’s corporate magazine. Before joining IBM, she travelled extensively in Egypt and Persia (now Iran) with the United States State Department. Clara loved sharing her adventures and the culture of New York City with her family, particularly her nieces and nephews. Clara and her late husband, Fred Stegmann, were longtime members of The First Presbyterian Church of New York. Clara is survived by a sister-in-law, Annette Clark of Lexington, KY; and many nieces and nephews, Nancy Radcliffe and husband, Mark Giuffrida, Mary Archer and husband, Jack, Bill Radcliffe and wife, Patricia, Heeth McCown and husband, Rainer, Thorne Clark, Ernest “Woody” Clark and wife, Vernita, Janet Metz and husband, Bill, Alexis Scott and husband, Frank, Kitty Moretz, Margaret Clark, Emily Clark, and Walter Clark and husband, Johnny Burleson. In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stegmann; two sisters, Mary Miles Radcliffe and Anne Clark; four brothers, Foy Clark, Edward Clark, David Clark, and Alexander “Buddy” Clark; a niece, Clara Walters; and a nephew, Bill Clark. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, a place Clara loved and supported.
