Clarence Jefferson Bowman

Mr. Clarence Jefferson Bowman, 70, of 211 Simon Lane, Ararat, VA, passed away Friday evening, July 23, 2010, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Patrick County. Mr. Bowman was born April 7, 1940, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late Simon Lee and Margaret Frances Culler Bowman. He retired as a bus driver from the Patrick County School System after 26 years of service and was a member of Blue Ridge Tabernacle. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Young Bowman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Craig Hussey of Greensboro; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Bowman of Meadows of Dan, VA; several special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Louis "Butch" Clement and Nelson Thompson, both of Ararat, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Bowman Thomas; and two brothers, Vance Turner Bowman and Walter Lee Bowman. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 26, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Blue Ridge Tabernacle, with the Rev. Edward Coins, the Rev. George Lambert, and the Rev. Alan Page officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
