Mr. Clarence Harvey (Duck) Collins, 81, of Dobson, took his heavenly flight to be with our Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving family and many friends. He was born on October 16, 1928, to Rush Cecil and Mamie Arie Wall Collins in Rockingham County. He was employed with Washington Mills in Mayodan and was transferred to Dobson in 1962, where he worked as assistant plant manger until his retirement. He drove a bus for Central Middle School for 12 years, was Dobson Town Commissioner for 16 years, and delivered the Winston Salem Journal for 46 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to all he knew. He was a member of the Dobson First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Griffin Collins, two brothers James Collins, and Harold Collins, two sisters Edith Rumley and Marie Easter. Surviving are: One son and daughter-in-law W.A. (Tony) and Geri Collins of Shertz, Texas; two daughters and son-in-law Connie and Kimber Smitherman of Dobson, Ms. Deborah Collins of the home; three brothers and sisters-in-law Rush Cecil Jr. and Ann Collins, Paul and Louise Collins all of Madison, and Donald Collins of Lakewood Co; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Julian of Eden; two sisters-in-law Polly Collins of Madison and Edith Collins of Reidsville; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Tabbetha, Amy, Suzanne, T.J., and Tyler; thirteen great grandchildren Tailor, Haley, Griffin, Austin, Paige, Savannah, Caleb, Luke, Caitlyn, Kyle, Jacob, Ashley and Nathan. Several nieces and nephews; a very special friend Hazel Swift of Thurmond. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday October 30, 2009 at Dobson First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison, NC. Rev. Michael Macon will officiate the service. His body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the wonderful care given to Clarence (Daddy) during his illness, by the staff of the Howard and Joan Woltz Hospice Home and the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Especially to Flannery Heath, Todd Byrd, Sarah Marshall and all who loved and cared for him.
