Mr. Clarence Lee Martin, 79, of 1090 Dallas King Road, Westfield, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Martin was born February 9, 1929, in Stokes County, to the late Charles Otis and Vellie Hooker Martin. Clarence was a cattle farmer for many years and retired from United Elastics. He was a member of Asbury Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nellie Rogers Martin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Clarence Holt of Stuart, VA; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Jessup and Linda and Billy Brindle, all of Pilot Mountain, Lavinia Fouts of Thomasville, and Shelby Cooke of Westfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewey and Linda Martin of Mount Airy and Justin and Sharon Martin of King; several nieces and nephews; and a special "little" friend, Savannah Robertson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Joyce; and six brothers, Charles Lindbergh Martin, John Calvin Martin, William Thomas Martin, Ronald Martin, Donald Martin, and Denville Reid Martin. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 6, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Asbury Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rickey Rogers and the Rev. Terry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the Asbury Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Sam Rogers, 1380 Raymond Jessup Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
