Clarence Vestal Smith

Mr. Clarence Vestal Smith, 83, of Lambsburg, VA, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born May 2, 1925, in Surry County, to Roby Anderson and Sarah Golding Smith. He was a retired carpenter. Surviving are grandchildren, Christi Brewer and husband, Rusty, of Gloucester Point, VA, and Ernie Smith and wife, Angela, of Lambsburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Rusty Brewer, Jr. and Dylan Smith; a sister, Florence Coalson of Lambsburg, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Smith, who helped Clarence tremendously throughout his illness, and his wife, Fay, of Mount Airy and Hurley and Rachel Smith of Lambsburg, VA; a former daughter-in-law, Rose Cooke; and a special niece, Bonnie Coalson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dale Smith. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Edwards-Upchurch Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Donald Bryant. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home from 9:30 until the time to depart for the service, and other times at 76 Log Cabin Lane, Lambsburg, VA. Military honors will be conducted at the service by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
