Mr. Claude Allen King, age 90 of Mt. Airy passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on Friday, December 9, 2011. He was born on August 15, 1921 in Coalwood, W. VA to the late John and Linda Edwards King. Mr. King was a veteran of the US Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He retired from Armtex in Pilot Mountain and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ken Nowlin of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren and spouses, Kenny and Amy Nowlin of Mt. Airy, Tonya Ratcliff of Mt. Airy and Joel and Anne Nowlin of Kernersville; seven great grandchildren, Kasey Nowlin, Clay Nowlin, Drew Nowlin, Olivia Ratcliff, Alex Ratcliff, Corey Nowlin and Summer Nowlin, one sister Forrest Jones of Florida and one brother and sister-in-law John and Joey King of Pilot Mountain. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Olivia Wilmoth King a daughter Nancy King Venable, a sister Frankie Gwyn and by three brothers Bruce King, Marvin King and Barnett King. Funeral services will be held Sunday December 11, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Alex Martin. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by the VFW memorial honor guard Mt. Airy Post #2019 and Pilot Mountain Post #9436. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until time for the service at Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church 314 S. Franklin Rd. Mt. Airy, NC. 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy will be assisting the King Family.
