Mr. Claude Steven “Steve” O’Neal, 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. O’Neal was born November 9, 1944, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Claude Columbus and Dora Blanche Key O’Neal. Steve proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as a knitter from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eunice Dixon O’Neal of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Tudor Abbott of Pinnacle; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Misty O’Neal of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Dylan O’Neal, Eryn O’Neal, and Jayden O’Neal, all of Mount Airy, and Hannah Coalson of Pinnacle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Jerry Combs of Manteo and Nancy and Wade Chang Bunker of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Nancy O’Neal of Greensboro and Gary and Marian O’Neal of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
