Claude William Utt

Mr. Claude William “Junior” Utt, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 2018, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Utt was born May 21, 1939, in Surry County, the son of the late Claude Lee and Emma Frances Mathis Utt. Junior worked as a produce hauler for many years and later as a self-employed car dealer. He was a member of Lighthouse Community Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannie Speas Utt of the home; a daughter, Betty Jackson of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky and Shelia Utt and Terry Utt, all of Mount Airy, four grandchildren, Chad Jackson and Chase Utt, both of Mount Airy, and Hannah Utt and Holden Utt, both of Harmony; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Isaac Utt of Harmony and Caleb Jordan Utt of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Willie Coake and Geraldine and Gary Towe, all of Mount Airy; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roy Utt, Carl Ray and Irene Utt, and Phillip Utt, all of Mount Airy, and Mack and Josie Utt of Supply. In addition to his parents, Mr. Utt was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Gwyn and Laura Catherine McCraw. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Lighthouse Community Church, with the Rev. Johnny W. Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
