Claude Allen Whitaker

Mr. Claude Allen Whitaker, age 92, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday Morning, June 8, 2018 at the home of his daughter.  He was born on May 21, 1926 to the late Robert Lee and Mollie Wood Whitaker.  He retired from Spencer’s Inc. and worked at the Flea Market as long as his health permitted.  Left to cherish his memories are a daughter Claudine Simmons; grandchildren, Tina Leigh Simmons, John Eddie Simmons, Jr., Angie Reinhart, Joshua Whitaker and Sophia Cifuentes; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Creed and a brother, Robert Whitaker.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Irene Edwards Whitaker; a daughter, Patricia Cifuentes; a son Gary Lee Whitaker; grandchildren, Lana Barr and Travis Whitaker; sisters Liza Chandler, Etta Thomas and Lizza Easter; brothers, Will, Carl, Luther, Curtis, and Woodrow Whitaker.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 11, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Edwards and Rev. Butch Holder officiating.  A private interment will follow.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:30 until the time of the service.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
