Claudia Ann Rogers Smith

Mrs. Claudia Ann Rogers Smith passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at her home in Mount Airy. She was 80 years of age. Born on March 12, 1936, Mrs. Smith was raised in Claudville, VA. She moved to Mount Airy after completing high school where she was last employed at Wolfe Drugs for several years until the pharmacy closed. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Red Hat Splashes and former member of the Mount Airy Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving the organization for many years. She was also active at the Northern Wellness and Fitness Center. Family and friends recall Mrs. Smith’s many leisure activities, inclusive of walking, crochet, reading, travel, line dancing, Zumba, and beach trips with her daughter. Mrs. Smith was frequently seen in her outdoor office that she created on her back porch, along with a colorful flower garden. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Rita Ann Smith of Banner Elk; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bob and Polly Rogers and Jim L. Rogers, all of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Gaynell and Mike Shaw of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law, Juanita W. Rogers of Mount Airy and Sue S. Smith of Stuart, VA; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Claude and Annie Anderson Rogers, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wallace Smith; a sister, Bonnie Jean Rogers Ayers; and a brother, Richard William Rogers. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 16, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Mr. Bill Joe Woodruff and Chaplain Dennis Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully recommends donations be made to the Mount Airy Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary (Truck Restoration Fund), 437 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Friends of the Mount Airy Police, P.O.
