Claudine Whitaker Simmons

Mrs. Claudine Whitaker Simmons, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at her home.  She was born July 28, 1946, in Surry County, to the late Claude and Gracie Edwards Whitaker.  Claudine owned and operated Simmons Grocery for several years.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be surely missed by all who knew her.  Left to cherish her memories are her children, John “Eddie” Simmons, Jr. (Ann) and Tina Simmons; her grandchildren, Kayla Barr, Shevy Kittle, Kasey Barr Saville, Blake Simmons (Brittany), and Chancy Simmons Ethier (Zeb); and eleven great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, John Eddie Simmons, Sr.; a daughter, Lana Barr; a sister, Patricia Cifuentes; and a brother, Gary Whitaker.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Edwards-Upchurch Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA, with the Rev. Butch Holder and the Rev. Chris Martin officiating.  No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
