Clay Vernon Mills

Mr. Clay Vernon Mills, 76, of Mt. Airy, passed away January 28, 2008, at his home. Mr. Mills was born February 13, 1931,i n Surry County, to Fred Vernon and Nellie Simmons Mills. He was a retired farmer and vender for Sands Vending and a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Tony Nelson of Mt. Airy and Lisa and Brian Shelton of Ararat; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny and Marcy Mills of Pilot Mountain and Ronald Mills and fiancee, Melissa Bentley, of Knightdale; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Adele Puckett, Betty Mills, Faye Richey; and four brothers, Allen Mills, Paul Mills, Curtis Mills and Gary Mills. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Leona Wilson Mills; and a sister, Gloria Willis. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Indian Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Floyd and the Rev. Keith Love. Burial will follow in Indian Grove Family Cemetery, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 123. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Mr. Mills will be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
