Mr. Clayton Columbus Wells, 82, of 727 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Wells was born September 2, 1930, in Mercer County, WV, the oldest of four children born to the late George Edward and Mary Etta York Wells. Clayton served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a knitting machine fixer and instructor at Renfro Corporation after many years of service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Agnes Mosley Wells of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and John Lankford of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and her husband, Tammy and Brian Smith of Lake Wylie, SC; two great-granddaughters, Isabella Smith and Anna-Grace Smith, both of Lake Wylie, SC; two sisters, Patsy Tatum of Astor, FL, and Mary Ralstin of Daytona, FL; a sister-in-law and her husband, Iris and James Harvey of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law and his wife, the Rev. Leon Mosley, Sr. and Betty Mosley of Rural Hall; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" and Edith Barone Wells; two brothers-in-law, William B. Tatum and Richard Ralstin; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie Robert and Vella Agnes Belton Mosley. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 7, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy McCraw officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
