Clayton Willis

Mr. Clayton Willis, 76, of 114 Corvette Lane, Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his home. Mr. Willis was born July 22, 1931, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Joe and Alma Sowers Willis. He was the former owner and operator of Bannertown Superette and a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict, and a very supportive member of the Bannertown community. Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda Gail Harrell of Greenville; a son, Brian Willis of Mt. Airy, NC, four grandchildren, Lindsay Willis, Zachary Willis, and Morgan Willis, all of Mt. Airy, and Brittany Harrell of Greenville; and two sisters, Foye Jessup of Pilot Mountain and Maxine Hill of Trinity. In addition to his parents, Mr. Willis was preceded in death by a brother, Lansford Willis. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 25, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jon Cawley, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Shepherd's House, 227 Rockford Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
