Cleo Regina Mauldin Matthews

Mrs. Cleo Regina Mauldin Matthews, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, December 27, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Matthews was born February 4, 1928, in Surry County, one of twelve children born to the late William Franklin and Callie Susan Nichols Mauldin. Cleo retired from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Ann York of Pensacola, FL, Cheryl Susan Brannock of Mount Airy, and Bonnie Gail Easter of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie James and Betty York of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, David James York and Joshua Matthew Smith, both of Mount Airy, Michael Shane and Tammy Brannock of Pensacola, FL, and Melissa Dawn Tackett of Cape Coral, FL; seven great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Susan Easter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husbands; four sisters; and seven brothers. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. J.L. Young officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Golden Living Center during her months of residency. A special thanks is extended to Deborah Utt, Michelle Smith, and the entire B-hall staff for their tender, loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
