Mr. Clifford Hiatt Johnson, 69, of Fuquay Varina, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday night, April 3, 2012, at the E. Carlton Powell Hospice Home in Lillington. Mr. Johnson was born July 29, 1942, in Surry County, the son of the late Howard William and Cornelia Alice Hiatt Johnson. Clifford worked at Acme Stone Company for 40 years, retiring in 2007 as operations manager. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mr. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Tara Bowen of Fuquay Varina and Detra Johnson of Raleigh; a son, Gregory Johnson of Buffalo Junction, VA; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Vaughan and Amanda Davis, Heather Davis, Cara Davis, Natalie Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Nina and Scott Hayes, and Tristan and Jamie Bowen; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Esther Johnson and Larry and Linda Johnson, all of Mount Airy, and Billy and Mildred Johnson of Pilot Mountain; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Ruth Harris Johnson; and two brothers, Charles Johnson and Ronald Johnson. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 8, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery, with Larry Johnson and Brian Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends and family Saturday, April 7, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the home of Larry and Linda Johnson, 366 Sheep Farm Road, Mount Airy. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many wonderful friends who visited, encouraged, and comforted Mr. Johnson during his illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
