Clifton Nathaniel Nixon

Mr. Clifton Nathaniel Nixon, 81, loving husband of Mrs. Evene Holyfield Nixon of Mountain Park passed away on Sunday February 22, 2009 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Nixon was born in Surry County on March 17, 1927 to the late Charles Sherman and Cora Samantha Callaway Nixon. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served our country during WWII as the was ending. A graduate of Mountain Park High School, the class of 1947, Mr. Nixon was a devoted member of Mountain Park Baptist Church where he proudly served as a third generation Deacon and a former member of Mountain Park Ruitan Club. After his retirement as a rural mail carrier, after twenty eight years of service, he worked for Nixon Home Improvement for six years until going blind. He was a member of North Carolina Rural Carrier Association and arranged tours for his classmates as well as many others. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 61 years, Evene Holyfield Nixon of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert and Glenda Nixon of Charlotte; two grandsons, Timothy Mark Nixon and David Randall Nixon both of State Road; five great- grandchildren; three special nieces, Barbara Benge, Rebecca Matlock and Kathy Morrison. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nixon was preceded in death by a sister, Robbie Teresa Wall and a brother, Leonard Montgomery Nixon. Funeral services will be held at Mountain Park Baptist Church on Wednesday at 2 pm by Rev. Flake Mason and Dr. Carl Childs with burial to follow in Mountain Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Kathy Johnson, for the love and compassionate care given to Mr. Nixon and his family during his sickness.
