Mr. Clyde R. Kirkman, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Kirkman was born May 17, 1929, in Surry County, to Charlie L. and Bessie Midkiff Kirkman. He retired from North Carolina Granite Corporation and was a member of Friendly Tabernacle. Surviving are his loving wife, Wanda Easter Kirkman of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Carl Craddock of Pilot Mountain and Vickie and Jimmy Flynn of Dobson; grandchildren, Donnie McBride and wife, Judy, Cindy Stanley and husband, Gary, and Tyler Flynn; great-grandchildren, Adam Bryant and Ashley Bryant; step-great-grandchildren, Kevin Harold, Caitlin Stanley, and Matthew Stanley; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillabelle and Mack Spencer of Toast; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Linda Kirkman and Charles and Sue Kirkman, all of Clemmons, and Fred and Nita Kirkman of Anderson, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Inman; and a brother, Harley Kirkman. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 27, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dud Spencer and the Rev. Roby Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care or the Woltz Hospice Home, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to Friendly Tabernacle, 574 Slate Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice and the Woltz Hospice Home for the love and tender care shown to Mr. Kirkman during his illness.
