Clyde Slate, Jr

Mr. Clyde "CJ" Slate, Jr., 69, of 2192 McBride Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Charles George Veterans Hospital in Asheville. Mr. Slate was born August 1, 1942, in Surry County, to Dorothy Mae Shelton Slate and the late Clyde Joseph Slate. He served our country in the United States Army in Korea. He was a farmer and a tobacco warehouseman in Stoneville for many years. He is survived by his wife, Marie Smith Slate of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Robin Slate of Mount Airy; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Helen Marie Sampson and Robert of Mount Airy, Crystal Hope Lancaster and Clint of Nicholsville, KY, and Rhonda Kay Bishop and Albert of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Joseph Slate and Luke Slate, both of Mount Airy; four stepgrandchildren, Cory Sampson and Hannah Linville, both of Mount Airy, and Dylan Lancaster and Caitlyn Lancaster, both of Nicholsville, KY; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Wight and Mary Lee Hiatt, all of Mount Airy, and Ruth Byrd of Archdale; sister-in-law, Gail Slate of Mt. Airy, and a special niece, Denise Slate of Mount Airy; and a special nephew, Darrell Slate of Mount Airy. In addition to his father, Mr. Slate was preceded in death by an infant son; and a brother, Donald Gray Slate. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Eric Sawyers and the Rev. Logan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with full military honors by the American Legion Post 123 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to help with Mr. Slate's funeral expenses.
