Mrs. Coleen Huffman Dollyhigh, 75, of 1646 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, March 22, 2008. Mrs. Dollyhigh was born July 6, 1932, in Surry County, daughter of the late Daniel Franklin and Callie Virginia Haymore Huffman. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1950, where she was valedictorian of her class. Coleen was co-owner and operator of The Treasure Chest for 34 years. A loving mother and grandmother, she was an active member and Sunday school teacher at Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Dollyhigh retired from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service after many years of service. During her spare time, she volunteered as a hospice volunteer, a literacy tutor, and a substitute teacher in Surry County Schools. Coleen will be remembered throughout the community for sharing her home cooked meals and peanut brittle with her family, friends, and neighbors. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy Dollyhigh of Greensboro, and Dena Dollyhigh and Larry R. O'Connor and Terry and Tom Marcum, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Susan Dollyhigh of Mount Airy; six grandchildren and spouses, Erin Dollyhigh, Emily and Bill Meyer, Eric and Amy Dollyhigh, Weston Staley, Phillip Staley, and Julia and Walter Norton; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Meyer and Sam Dollyhigh; a sister and brother-in-law, Alene and John Bowman of Mount Airy; and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Clarence and Leona Huffman and Dr. Gilbert and Mellie Huffman, all of Mount Airy, Clate Huffman of Lexington, and Ralph and Peggy Huffman of Whiteville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dollyhigh was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Gray Dollyhigh; a daughter and son-in-law, Isa E. Dollyhigh and Jorge Alberto Guerra Santos; and a brother, Donald Rex Huffman. A service to celebrate the life of Coleen will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Wallace, the Rev. Julie Peeples, the Rev. Paul Davis, and the Rev. David Gantt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
