Connie William Jenkins

Mr. Connie William Jenkins, 85, of Dobson, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Willowbrook Healthcare Center in Yadkinville. He was born March 16, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Jim and Lilly Stanley Jenkins. He was a devout Christian who shared his love for God through the life he lived and through song. He was a dedicated member and deacon of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities as long as his health permitted. Mr. Jenkins sang with the Masters Quartet for over 25 years. He was a member of the South Surry Fire Department where he worked up until the summer of 2009. Mr. Jenkins will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lola Belle Childress Jenkins, with whom he shared her life for 65 years; a grandson, Steven Colvard; a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Isabella Grubbs; four sisters; and seven brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Jean (Ray) Reece, Brenda Sue (Larry) Colvard, and Gaye J. (Charles) Rogers, all of Dobson; five grandchildren, William Edward Reece, Jennifer (Derek) McBride, Stephony ("Chip") Grubbs, Tina (Jonathan) Hodges, and Mandy (Matt) Royall; five great-grandchildren, Bailey and Garrett Cave, Grace and Faith Hodges, and Trey Grubbs; a sister, Lessie Coe of Elkin; two special brothers-in-law, Fred Childress and Homer Childress; several special nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barlow Stanley, Brother Don Collins, and Pastor Barry O'Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, where his body will remain until the hour of the service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ray Floyd for helping to fill all of his lonely hours; to the staff at Willowbrook for the love and care given to "Papa"; to Dr. Evan Ballard and the staff of Jonesville Medical Center.
